See our Volunteer testimonials below…
I volunteered at Kirkintilloch CAB because I thought my skills in accountancy might be useful in helping people and I could gjve something back to the community. What I found was an organisation so friendly and dedicated to helping people that my skills and knowledge have increased tremendously. From my experience Kirkintilloch CAB is often a lifeline for people who have nowhere else to go to access advice and I am very proud to play a small part in providing the help and advice so often desperately needed
- June Hunter
Following a busy life running an engineering contracting business I knew that when I retired 9 years ago I must keep active to keep me mentally and physically challenged. One of the most important activities in my portfolio is my voluntary work for Citizen’s Advice, working here in Kirkintilloch office. I was well trained to start my new career and while at first very daunting in a totally new environment, I have thoroughly enjoyed my work as a generalist adviser at the bureau.
The staff are made up of a core of employees with various specialist skills and I am one of 30 or more front line volunteers who are client facing. The working camaraderie within the organisation is excellent and on-going training and specialisation are also available.
Client problems we have to deal with are wide ranging and in many cases we can at least brighten the day for our clients, if not resolve their problems totally. Seeing the relief on their faces when a possible solution has been discussed is highly rewarding. Support from management and staff is always available when handling difficult cases.
If you are up for a challenge in good and supportive company I can commend Citizen’s advice to you - Richard Arnold
Having worked with many different teams over a long career, I have no hesitation in saying that the team at East Dunbartonshire Citizens Advice Bureau was made up of the most committed, professional, caring and motivated individuals I have ever worked with”
“I appreciate the opportunities that volunteering at CAB gives me to offer something back to my local community, particularly as the Kirkintilloch CAB office has a very supportive and friendly atmosphere.
I volunteer with Kirkintilloch CAB because I felt that I was stagnating at home. I
wanted to get out of the house, meet new people and do something worthwhile. I
needed a new challenge, and as I enjoy working with people, volunteering with
Kirkintilloch CAB was the perfect opportunity for me.
Although, I had over twenty years of knowledge and experience advising and
supporting adults in a college setting. I was worried that, having very little
knowledge of the subject areas covered by the Bureau, I would give clients
inappropriate advice. However, I soon realised I was worrying unnecessarily.
Kirkintilloch CAB provides a welcoming, friendly and relaxed atmosphere for
everyone that walks through its doors. Volunteers, staff and management are all
very friendly and approachable. You can ask them anything no matter how ‘silly’ you
think it might be. Where clients present with more complex and demanding situations
there is always someone on hand to provide expert support and advice. Everyone
works together to provide an effective service to clients.
I am very proud to say that I volunteer within Kirkintilloch CAB and would
recommend it to anyone, who, like myself, have a passion for helping others.
