Affordable Housing in Scotland

Ensuring Access to Affordable Housing in Scotland

Citizen’s Advice Scotland (CAS) recently input into discussions around affordable housing in Scotland. We responded to the consultation on the proposed Fair Rents (Scotland) Bill. The Bill was a “…proposal to protect private sector tenants by introducing measures to limit rent increases and to increase the availability of information about rent levels.”

Investment in both social and affordable housing is important in areas where many people want to live. These areas include Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. It is also important to ensure that residents of East Dunbartonshire have fair rents too.

Why Affordable Housing in Scotland is Important

Many people in Scotland worry about housing issues. This is especially true for those on low incomes who are affected most by a rise in rent.

CAS wants private rent rises to be capped and controlled. Further investment in affordable housing should also be made. We want to protect the standard of living for renters in Scotland, and make them better off each month. Citizens Advice Scotland also wants to end the freeze on Local Housing Allowance

Dealing With Your Rent Problems

Consultations can take a long time to become law. We hope that new rules will soon benefit renters across East Dunbartonshire and Scotland. This does not, however, help people who are currently struggling with rent issues at the moment.

We are here to help those with accommodation issues. We offer free and confidential housing advice to everyone in the area. This includes advice on rent and mortgage arrears, housing benefits and grants, and social housing.
