The Covid passport system

The way we live our lives has changed dramatically since Coronavirus emerged in 2020. Since then, we have not been as free to do the things we used to take for granted. Things like visit clubs and go on foreign holidays. And so in an effort to curb the spread of the virus whilst still allowing us to get out and about, the Scottish Government has introduced a Covid passport in Scotland.

The passport system is a way to prove that you have had your Covid vaccines. It will then allow you access to venues and events. However, it’s important to know how to find your covid status in the first place. Fortunately, the easiest way is with your smartphone. But we will also cover how to get it if you don’t have access via a mobile, or if you are aged 12-17 where you will be unable to register on the app.

Get the NHS Covid passport app on your phone

If you are over 18 years old, the first thing to do is download the NHS Scotland Covid status app on your phone. It can be found on the Google Play store here for Android phones, and the App Store here for Apple phones.

Please note that only phones that can access Google Play or the App Store can get and download the app. This means that those using Windows phones, or phones that don’t have access to the internet, will be unable to access it.

Open the NHS Scotland covid passport app, and then tap the “Access COVID Status” button.

You will then need to either sign in or sign up for an account. If you sign up, you will be taken to a verification page where you will need to prove your identity. This will mean having your passport or driving license to hand. The app will ask you to take a photo of the ID using your phone’s camera. It will then automatically upload the images to the app.

Then, you will need to create some login details, including an email address and a password. This will ensure your information can only be accessed by you. Continue through the steps on the app until your ID is verified and you are able to access your Covid status.

Request your Covid status online or by phone

If you can’t get the NHS app on your phone, then there are other ways to access your Covid passport in Scotland.

You can download or request a copy of your vaccination status online. This is something you can do on any computer. Remember that you will need a printer if you want to show it to anyone. If you don’t have a printer at home, East Dunbartonshire libraries offer a printing service.

Finally, you can request your NHS Covid passport Scotland status by phoning the COVID Status Helpline on 0808 196 8565. Those aged 12 – 17 should also call this number, as the app is only available to those over 18 years of age.

If you would like to talk to someone about getting your Covid passport in Scotland then visit the NHS website.
