The importance of volunteering in Scotland with EDCAB

Volunteers are the backbone of many charitable organisations, including the East Dunbartonshire Citizens Advice Bureau. Our wonderful volunteers play a crucial role in delivering free, confidential, and impartial advice to individuals from the area facing a wide range of issues. Whether it is money problems, legal issues or seeking help to improve their everyday lives, volunteers at EDCAB offer a lifetime’s worth of support. Volunteer week happens every year in June, and it is the perfect opportunity to highlight the important outcomes volunteering in Scotland with us provides.

What do Citizens Advice Bureau volunteers do?

Here at the East Dunbartonshire Citizens Advice Bureau, we offer advice on a range of issues. These include debt, housing, employment, benefits, and consumer rights. We do this through a combination of paid staff and volunteers, without whom we could not possibly help as many people as we do.

Our volunteers take on a variety of roles, each of which is vital to the organisation’s operations. For example, our volunteer advisors offer face-to-face, phone, and online advice to clients on a range of issues. Advisers help individuals understand their rights, navigate complex systems, and make informed decisions. These volunteer advisors are all fully trained and are experts in their field.

We also work with volunteer administrators who keep up with the day-to-day needs of running of our offices. From helping people to book appointments to answering the phones, they are the backbone to efficient running of the EDCAB offices.

We have volunteers from all walks of life who have some time to spare during the week. They help us with our IT, social media and even any campaigning to which allow us to help more people. Each year we speak to thousands of people from across the region,

Finally, our trustees also donate their time to us. Our Board of Trustees help navigate our strategic direction. This ensures that we can help as many people as possible which, at the moment, results in over 20,000 queries each year. Our ten board members all seek to make a difference and contribute to the continuous development of EDCAB.

A happy smiling volunteer.
